YAC Social Events

Planning YAC social events is a big part of what the Young Adult Committee does. When we plan, we come up with a lot of options for social events and figure out what is most feasible and affordable and then we go from there. We had wanted to go to mini golf but after doing more research found out that they did not have group pricing on the weekend. We recently appointed a chairperson and Michelle Felder was chosen for the position so she really took a leadership role in the planning and organizing of the event.

Love Bash

By Mariana Torres and Raymond Nichols

Every month during the summer and early fall members Sharon and Raven host Love Bashes. At the Love Bashes there is always free clothes, free food, free toiletries and other free resources people may need. When Raymond went, he was able to get two pairs of pants and two shirts. He stayed for a bit over two hours and came to the Love Bash after going to the Walters Art Museum Saturday social event with the Clubhouse. Raymond said he had a fairly good time but it would be more fun if there were more activities to do while we are there.

Ben also went to one of the Love Bashes and said they had a lot of really good resources for people. Raven has connections with different organizations which were able to provide the food, clothes and toiletries. These organizations have lots of resources and therefore they are able to donate and help their communities.

Camden Yards Job Fair

By Raymond Nichols and Mariana Torres

The Camden Yards Job Fair took place on Tuesday August 1st and two of our Clubhouse Colleagues went for interviews. We started by filling out a short application with some of our information and we brought our resumes with us to the job fair. We only had to wait in line for 10-15 minutes, even though there were a lot of people there to interview, it went by pretty quickly.

The interviews were in a one-on-one style where they asked a few questions including what positions we were interested in, I was interested in ushering, ticket taking, or greeting. One question they asked me was “Why do you want this job?” I responded that I just like being around people and this job would be good for that. Overall, it was a pretty standard interview and I would say that the Interview went well, and no matter what it was a learning experience that can help me in the future. Mishe, who went with me, was offered a job while we were still there and that was very exciting for her.
